Quality
Rochester Tube Products, Ltd. holds firm to the belief that a consistently high level of product quality is the very best advertising program as a means of attracting and retaining Customers. As a result, RTP's goal is to provide the product on time and as specified by the Customer.
In order to guarantee compliance with its Customers' requirements, RTP has implemented a Quality Program consisting of a series of procedures that begin with the Customer's request for quotation (RFQ) and end with the product being delivered. These procedures are formally documented in RTP's Quality Manual and are based on over 30 years experience in the tube cutting business, coupled with the changes in today's manufacturing supply practices and governed by the requirements of the QS program.
A brief description of the quality elements of the manufacturing process will better illustrate our commitment to quality than would a statement that simply says that "we have a quality program, too".
The process from the beginning...
After confirming that the product description in the Customer's RFQ is within RTP's capability, the Customer receives an offer for us to produce the parts. The offer consists of pricing and terms, any deviations or exceptions, a print of the part to be supplied (if one was not provided), material availability and policy statements regarding part warranty.
Assuming acceptance of the offer, RTP orders material from an approved, capable source. Upon receipt, the material is visually inspected for damage, defects, rust and corrosion and discoloration. Samples are taken and further tests are made to confirm dimensional characteristics and hardness. Material certifications supplied by the manufacturer are compared to the purchase order.
After the material has been verified, a work order is created and the job is scheduled. At the appropriate time, a machine set-up sheet is prepared detailing instructions to the maintenance personnel as to the dimensions and end cut of the finished product. The machine is prepared and the first few pieces are verified by the individual who set-up the machine, the machine operator and a Quality Representative. A master part is made, approved, tagged and kept at the machine for the life of the order. This master part is used to calibrate the length gage located on each machine.
During production, the operator is required to check the parts at prescribed intervals and to record the results on Statistical Process Control (SPC) information sheets. In addition, a Quality Representative checks on the parts, SPC documents and gage calibration. Any anomalies or suspect/defective parts cause the machine to be halted, the matter resolved, any questionable parts to be sorted and the machine set-up procedure to be re-verified. This inspection process continues until the order quantity is attained.
The cut pieces are then moved to the audit area where a Quality Representative randomly samples a predetermined number of parts (usually 50 pieces). This inspection consists of confirming diameter, wall thickness, length, end cut (no burrs), appearance (no scratches), etc. The computer generated SPC documentation, Material Certification and operator production records are attached to the parts container for inclusion with the shipment.
The final steps in the supply process are performed by the Shipping Department. The parts are counted, weighed, packaged and bar code labeled as per instructions from the Customer. Protection for the parts is provided by treated paper and/or application of a rust and corrosion inhibitor. The carrier designated by the Customer is notified and the shipment is scheduled for pickup. Carefully loading the truck in a manner that prevents the parts from damage in transit completes the procedure.
RTP takes other steps in support of its direct manufacturing quality procedures.
Surveying tube manufacturers for QS compliance, consistency and quality.
Surveying Customers for levels of satisfaction with RTP products and solicitation of suggestions for improvement.
RTP is proud of its record regarding its delivery of quality parts and has received numerous awards and has been recognized for its perfect and near-perfect quality/delivery efforts, some covering several years.
We at Rochester Tube Products, Ltd. remain committed to making each and ever part to the specifications required by its Customers. Our guarantee is to immediately replace any RTP-supplied part that doesn't meet the specifications.
This policy has served us well.
